Official COP28 Side Event: Trade in a Climate-Constrained World: Adding Value From U.S. Manufacturing to Indian Entrepreneurship

The Center for American Progress, the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, and Development Alternatives are excited to host this official UNFCCC COP28 side event in Dubai.

New green trade laws and partnerships may be the key to reshaping the global economy and reaching the 1.5 degree Celsius goal. Even so, green trade mechanisms could pose challenges for developing countries, and it is unclear how far labor protections would extend to working people around the world.

Hosted by the Center for American Progress, the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, and Development Alternatives, this official COP28 side event will delve into the opportunities of green trade, exploring how new global trade mechanisms can reimagine and reshape global systems through innovative solutions, competition, and cooperation. John Podesta, Senior Advisor to President Biden for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, will be delivering keynote remarks. Featuring experts on global trade architecture as well as practitioners working within local communities, panelists will discuss trade issues from the carbon border adjustment mechanism to labor rights in this important conversation about how to create a new global green trade system that centers working people.

Please note: This event is taking place in person at the UNFCCC COP28, in Dubai UAE. The event is from 11:30am – 1:00pm Gulf Standard Time.
