Sudan is grappling with a complex war that has spiraled the country into the world’s largest displacement crisis. A persistent lack of food, water, and other resources has pushed Africa’s third-largest country to the brink of famine. Nearly 9 million Sudanese have been forced to flee their homes, and more than 15,000 people have been killed since fighting began last April. Currently, 25 million people, more than half of Sudan’s population, are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and protection.

Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, will be joined in conversation by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello, and activist Haitham Elnour. Among other topics, the panel will examine the economic and humanitarian costs of the conflict, the roles of local humanitarian relief networks and international partners, and the critical need for the Sudanese people to be a part of the peace process and shape their country’s future.
