Since ChatGPT exploded onto the scene in the Fall of 2022, the world has been focused on the opportunities and the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI). The Biden administration’s 2023 executive order on AI was a historic step forward in the federal government rising to address AI. But with AI legislation unlikely to pass in Congress this year, it is increasingly important to consider how to best use existing laws and authorities to address AI.

Almost every lawmaker, regulator, and elected official has declared that existing laws apply to AI and that those existing laws must be enforced now. But what exactly are those existing laws, and how should they be applied to these new AI uses?

Please join Governing for Impact (GFI) and the Center for American Progress in an event discussing how agencies can deploy existing statutory authorities to take further action on AI.

A new report from GFI and CAP, being released in conjunction with the event, will explore in depth existing statutory authorities to address AI at a variety of domestic agencies including the departments of Labor, Housing and Urban Development, and Education.

Doors will open and lunch will be served at 12:30; program begins at 1:00.
