As health officials warn that coronavirus, known as “COVID-19”, will “almost certainly” spread in the United States, serious questions are emerging about how the U.S. government should respond. Elsewhere, countries are beginning to take drastic measures including restricting travel, closing schools, and postponing religious pilgrimages. With growing concerns that the coronavirus outbreak may become a pandemic, critics say the Trump administration has been slow to address the impending crisis. Administration officials have sought to downplay the risk, and President Donald Trump said at a recent press conference that the coronavirus threat to the United States “remains very low,” contradicting guidance from the Centers for Disease Control.

Our panelists will discuss how to prepare the country and the world to fight a potentially devastating outbreak. This important conversation will highlight the panelists’ experience and insights on how to manage an effective, government-wide response, including how the federal government should prioritize and integrate its response efforts with state and local governments, private industry, and international governments, as well as how to communicate information to the American people.
