Departing Dysfunction

Former FEC Commissioner Ann Ravel on Money in Politics, Polarization, and a Way Forward

Center for American Progress
5:00 - 6:00 PM EST

Please join the Center for American Progress for remarks from Ann Ravel, departing commissioner on the Federal Election Commission, or FEC, as well as a panel discussion with Ravel and noted experts. The FEC’s mission is to ensure fairness and enforce the laws regulating money spent on elections, but it is mired in a period of historic dysfunction. Its failure to enforce campaign finance laws is allowing secret political spending and improper candidate coordination to spread unchecked, undermining American democracy. Ravel and guests will explore the roots of this dysfunction, the consequences of grinding government to a halt, and demand for election reform at the federal, state, and local levels.

Hear from former Commissioner Ravel on lessons learned about government institutions and the importance of effective oversight.
